Our Island Home

A short film about housing on North Haven

Our Island Home is a short film highlighting the significant housing challenge on North Haven Island, Maine. It also reveals the newest campaign by North Haven Sustainable Housing to combat the urgent need.

About the campaign

The Our Island Home campaign will create nine new housing units on North Haven, meeting a critical need for our community. Our goal is to raise $1.6 million to support the development of FOUR affordable rental units and FIVE new, highly-efficient homes on the South Shore, which will be sold at an affordable price and with deed covenants that ensure they will remain affordable in the long term. The new housing units will enable young people, teachers, workers, and others to have affordable year-round housing options in our community.

FUNDING NEEDS:

$450,000 for rental housing match of $840,000 Maine Housing Grant

$700,000 for additional subsidy for South Shore Road Developement

$100,000 for energy programs - especially low-income support/subsidy

$375,000 for 3-years of extra program staffing to meet capacity needs

TOTAL: $1,625,000
